SMiSA Launches ‘Build the Buds’ Campaign as We Aim for 3,000 Members by St Mirren’s 150th Anniversary

St Mirren Independent Supporters Association (SMiSA) is today proud to launch ‘Build the Buds’ - a new membership campaign designed to help us reach 3,000 members by St Mirren Football Club’s 150th anniversary in October 2027.

This milestone campaign reflects our shared ambition to strengthen fan ownership, increase our financial support for the Club, and ensure St Mirren continues to thrive both on and off the pitch for generations to come.

Results of Member Vote

Following the recent members’ vote on two key resolutions, we are pleased to confirm that both proposals were approved by a clear majority. Each resolution required approval of at least 66.67% of votes cast to pass.

1. Funding Model Restructure

Members were asked:

Do you approve or disapprove the restructuring of SMiSA's funding model, as per 'The Way Forward' strategy document?

The proposal was approved with final voting figures of xx approve, xx disapprove (xx% approval), meaning SMiSA will now implement the new funding structure outlined in The Way Forward strategy. This marks an important step in ensuring that our financial contributions have the maximum impact for the benefit of St Mirren FC and the wider community.

2. Club Board Director Terms

Members were also asked:

Do you approve or disapprove the change to make SMiSA-appointed Club Board directors stand for re-approval after four years, and introduce a maximum eight-year term?

This motion was likewise approved with final voting figures of xx approve, xx disapprove (xx% approval), ensuring greater accountability and a healthy rotation of skills and experience on the Club Board as we continue to evolve as a fan-owned club.

New Funding Model Implemented

With SMiSA’s cash reserve currently sitting above the agreed threshold of £500,000, the new funding model takes effect immediately.

Going forward, the distribution of member subscriptions will be as follows:

  • 50%Build the Buds Pot: to support key projects around the Club

  • 30%St Mirren FC Youth Academy: investing in the future of our young Buddies!

  • 10%St Mirren Charitable Foundation: helping make a difference in our community

  • 6.5%SMiSA Cash Reserve: ensuring financial stability and sustainability

  • 3.5%St Mirren Women FC: backing the continued growth of the women’s game

This balanced model allows us to directly invest in areas that develop the Club, strengthen our community ties, and safeguard our long-term future as a fan-owned organisation.
